The Southeastern Branch, Entomological Society of America Virtual Entomology Games were held 3/29/2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Seven teams from the Southeastern Branch competed with about 80 to 90 people attending.
Our UT Entomology Team (the UT Blue-tick Hounds) placed 3rd in the Competition, missing out for a tie of 2nd place by only 1 point. Team members were Julian Cosner, Kassie Hollabaugh, Dawson Kerns, and Matthew Longmire (Team Captain).
Please take a moment to congratulate them on their achievement!
I need help identifying a very curious pod on a pin oak tree. My granddaughter pulled a small green fruit off the tree. It was about the size of a large marble. Then we found 3 pods on the same tree that are purple color, hard and look similar to a long fat pepper. I know what you’re thinking; pin oaks don’t bear fruit or pods. I know! But this one did and does. We have photos. The pods, I think, could be some sort of chrysalis. But of what sort of insect?
If you are interested or would be willing to help we’d be most grateful.
Thank you for your time!
