Ph.D. Candidate Rufus Akinrinlola, whose concentration is in sustainable diseases and integrated pest management, was a recent guest on “Cannabis Cultivation & Science”, a KIS Organics’ podcast. This podcast is hosted by Tad Hussey, owner of KIS Organics – a business organization that offers organic farming supplies, natural pesticides, and more.
During the podcast, Akinrinlola discussed his research on hemp and recent publication with his mentor, Zachariah Hansen, an assistant professor and Extension specialist in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, titled “Hemp Fungicide Efficacy Field Trial for Leaf Spot and Powdery Mild”.
In recent years, the production of hemp has increased in Tennessee. Akinrinlola stated this increase, as well as his interest in researching biological and organic pesticides, were the primary reasons for conducting a field trial for leaf spot and powdery mildew. “In Tennessee, amongst the most common diseases that our growers report are leaf spot and powdery mildew” Akinrinlola said. He also shared that he wanted to provide more scientific information and data to growers to assist them on how to manage these fungal diseases.
“I would like to thank KIS Organics for creating such a great platform to share information like this with the general audience, and I will thank the Host, Tad Hussey, for providing me the opportunity to share our research with his audience. You are making a great impact.”
