Sebe Brown joined the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology on Monday, December 13, 2021, as an assistant professor in Fields Crops Entomology at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center in Jackson, Tennessee.

In this role, Brown will deliver a comprehensive and dynamic extension program in IPM related to common field crops grown in Tennessee – cotton, soybean, corn, and wheat. This involves supporting county agents, crops consultants, and other stakeholder groups. Brown will also play a key role in the academic life of entomology and plant pathology graduate students by serving as a major advisor.

Brown says “a complete extension program relies on three key components to be effective: research, teaching, and outreach. These three components are inseparable and cannot function effectively on their own.” He plans on incorporating his view of extension into the program. “I look forward to working with Ag professionals to help them identify insect pest issues and recommend cost effective, sustainable management strategies for insects. My goal is to provide timely, research-based information producers need to make the best decision for their situation and crop.”

Brown served as the statewide research & extension field crops entomologist at Louisiana State University for three years. He holds a Ph.D. in entomology and is a current member of the Entomological Society of America. In addition, he has authored or co-authored 20 refereed articles in national and international entomological journals.

In his free time, Brown enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and working with livestock as both his wife and daughter show horses. He also enjoys hunting and fishing.
