Recognizing First-Generation Students in EPP

Navigating the path to higher education as the first in one’s family presents unique challenges and triumphs. In the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology (EPP), we recognize and celebrate the resilience and determination of our first-generation students.

For these individuals, the journey to college often involves overcoming obstacles without the guidance of familial precedent. Yet, their tenacity and commitment shine through as they blaze their trail toward academic success.

As we celebrate our first-generation students, we encourage you to explore their experiences. Graduate research assistant and master’s student Shelly Pate has shared her inspiring journey in an article. Pate’s story reflects the challenges and successes of many first-generation students, highlighting their resilience and determination.
